Keeping your rig on the road and running smoothly is one of the keys to being a successful semi-truck driver. If you perform routine maintenance, you'll reduce the risk of sudden breakdowns and other issues requiring repair. However, semi-trucks typically put in a lot of road miles, so unfortunately, even well-maintained trucks may experience problems at one time, or another. No Heat, or Cool Air

Semi-trucks commonly experience cooling pump, radiator and thermostat problems, causing cooling and heating systems to go awry. This can be extremely frustrating if the weather is very warm and your truck isn't putting out cold air, or if it's cold and your heating system isn't working. The issue could be anything from dirt, or bugs clogging the filter, to a condenser that has reached its lifespan and requires replacing. Because heating and cooling systems have many complex components, it's best that you avoid tinkering with it yourself as you could do more damage. If you find that your truck isn't putting out cold air, or heat, take it in to a semi-truck mechanic to have it checked out.

Inconsistent Shifting

Whether your truck is equipped with an automatic, or manual transmission, inconsistent shifting is nothing to ignore. When you shift gears, if you notice any unusual behavior, such as the transmission not responding  fast enough to the gear change, or loud noises when you shift, you may have trouble lurking under the hood. Likewise, if you notice revving between shifting, you may have transmission problems. The cause could be anything from issues with the sensors, to transmission fluid leaking out, leading to low levels. It's best to take your truck in to a mechanic to have it inspected.

Leaks and Odors

Semi-trucks take a beating hauling loads back and forth, and while they may seem bulletproof, they're vulnerable to a number of mechanical issues. That's why it's crucial that you don't ignore things like leaks, or strange odors. If you notice abnormal leaks, or smell strange odors, take your car in to a semi-truck mechanic. Not all leaks are harmless. For example, a damaged air conditioner may leak refrigerant, which is hazardous to inhale.
